No. While HYOR is built for first-time filmmakers who want to make short or feature films, the lessons apply to all types of video creators. Your lead instructor has shot hundreds of projects, including music videos, commercials, documentaries, podcasts, and social content, so his taste, knowledge, and expertise can help any filmmaker or entrepreneur who wants to sharpen their storytelling and production skills.

Most members start with 2 to 3 hours per week. You can move at your own pace, watch replays when you cannot attend live, and ask questions in the community whenever you get stuck.

The First-Time Filmmakers community is designed for beginners age 15 and up. A focused and motivated teenager can absolutely benefit from the trainings, live Q&A sessions, and assignments. Younger students (12–14) are welcome as long as a parent or guardian is involved and manages the account.

We focus on storytelling, production, marketing, and the business side of film. There is no “kids” curriculum or games (at the moment). This is real-world filmmaking and entrepreneurship training, taught in a way that a serious teen can understand and apply. If you are looking for a playful hobby space for small children, this is probably not a fit. If you want your teenager to learn how to actually finish films and think like a professional, they will be right at home.
